Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) Heat Settings from iCraft Vinyl.com

After you have cut your heat transfer vinyl, it is time to press. All of our HTV material can be used with a heat press, home iron or EasyPress. However, before you get started, it is important to remember that the heat settings for the different HTV materials may vary slightly. Below is a chart so you can easily access all of the correct HTV heat settings for the materials we offer at iCraftVinyl.com.

Also, keep in mind that this is just a guide. The settings may vary based on your heat press, home iron or EasyPress. Make sure you test the settings on some scrap material with your personal machine to ensure your HTV is being properly adhered. Without enough heat, your HTV may lift. With too much heat, you could burn or melt your material.

Tips for Pressing HTV

Whether you use a heat press or a home iron, make sure you are using enough pressure. When using an iron, use your body weight to help you apply the HTV. Some people press on the floor to ensure a firm press. If you're using a heat press, you can test your pressure by placing a dollar bill between the platens and closing your press. Adjust the pressure until you cannot remove the bill.

Additionally, you should do a final press on all of your projects to make sure your HTV won't lift. With our matte and liquid metallic HTV, you should be able to see the lines of the fabric through the material.

Another tip to keep in mind if you're using a heat press is to check to make sure it is heating evenly. You can check for cold spots with a laser temperature gun.

While heat settings are important, it is also important to note whether the material is a cold or warm peel. If the material is a cold peel, give it time to cool before removing the carrier sheet. It is is warm, you can remove it while it is still hot. If you're working with a home iron, or using a heat press to do multiple layers, give the material time to cool before removing carrier sheet.
